In a rural setting in Suffolk, a converted barn has been transformed into an elegant home, where the owners sought to elevate their master suite with a bathroom that exudes luxury. Despite the limited space, our mission was clear: to create a sanctuary where every moment feels indulgent and every detail enhances the experience of daily life.
Rethinking space for modern elegance
We approached the challenge with a bold, innovative mindset, seamlessly integrating the bathroom into the bedroom. This open plan design, inspired by the refinement of a boutique five-star hotel, creates a space that is as visually striking as it is functional. The result is a harmonious blend of visual impact, optical elegance, and experiential excellence.
The homeowners embraced this visionary concept, and under the exposed rafters of their historic yet contemporary abode, we curated an environment defined by understated luxury. The use of soft white tones, neutral hues, glass, and stone cladding work together to create a space that is not only beautiful but also serene and inviting.
Thoughtful, intentional design
Central to this spa-like retreat is an expansive walk-in shower, a freestanding bath, and dual vanity units, ensuring that both partners have their own private spaces for daily rituals. Functionality is subtly integrated into the design with the clever use of false walls, which also serve as stylish features in their own right.
To subtly distinguish the bathroom from the bedroom, we introduced a transition from warm wooden flooring to cool porcelain tiles. The matte finishes on white tiles and marble-effect cladding add a textural depth that enhances the sensory experience of the space.
A symphony of shape and texture
The cool, calming colour palette is beautifully balanced with warm wooden details, from the exposed eaves to the vanity units. Seamless glass doors and walls, along with polished chrome fixtures, introduce a touch of sparkle, while the smooth curve of the freestanding bath, reminiscent of a pebble shaped by water, adds an organic softness to the room’s clean lines.
