Black Splashback Inspiration
A dark splashback can add an amazing feature to a subtle colour scheme. This case study shows just that. A stunning marble creation that lets this kitchen shine.
Ms King was looking for a highly contemporary kitchen design and was impressed when she met Adam Brown Designer at Nicholas Anthony Wigmore St. The client had fallen in love with some of the SieMatic kitchens she had seen and was determined to have this in her new home. Ms King is a keen cook who has always had Gaggenau appliances and was keen to continue with this prestigious brand in her new home.
Interestingly there were two trips to the stone yard in order to choose a beautiful material for the splashback. Originally a semi-precious material in a deep blue shade was specified called Sodolite, Ms King was drawn to this as it complemented her lifelong collection of Copenhagen China, and she wished to showcase this precious china collection in her new kitchen. However after the second visit to the stone yard she fell in love with a much darker black marble called Nero Marquina. Adam Brown, the designer decided to bookmatch join this in the middle behind the tap to create the truly stunning splashback. A black sintered porcelain worktop was then chosen to match this and creates a dramatic and wonderfully balanced effect.
The designer had to be very clever and creative when it came to the specification of the Gaggenau appliances that the client had stipulated, as some items were very large and needed to fit into this modest space. For example the island unit houses a freestanding washer and separate dryer built in with a downdraft extractor. This was a very precise job that had to be calculated accurately to avoid error. The Gaggenau wine cooler breaks up the run of units and introduces another material. Hidden storage is in abundance and ensure that the surfaces are kept free form clutter.
